SUCCESS- We just talked to JoAnne's surgeons... and she successfully made it through the surgeries!!!! See below for updates...
TRACH SURGERY- a breathing tube has been fixed to JoAnne's lower neck to allow for easier breathing and more comfortable rest and recovery. That procedure went great! She will continue to be heavily sedated while on the breathing machine for now, as they found she's not comfortable with less sedation, even when on very heavy pain meds. We'll take it day to day with that, and will keep you posted.
LEG SURGERY- the surgery went well, and they were able to preserve her pelvis and create a hardy R buttock by borrowing muscle/tissue from her R thigh. They achieved what they hoped to accomplish in the surgery (even boasting a bit about how perfectly it went and will look), and think JoAnne will someday be able to sit comfortably/normally. We aren't getting ahead of ourselves with discussing more plastic surgery, prosthetics, etc. until we know she's stable, but the fact that she survived this serious surgery is big. :)
WAITING- we asked the surgeon what was next, and he said "to wait!". JoAnne's body has been through some serious trauma over the last week and a half, and at this point we just need to wait for her to stabilize, then continue to improve, little by little. Thanks to the surgery today, JoAnne now has the potential to improve, as all of her most critical open wound is finally closed, and this in itself is very exciting. She is of course at risk for infection due to the surgery, her blood pressure and WBC will fluctuate as she stabilizes and fights to recover, etc., but we must continue to hope as we have that, JoAnne being JoAnne, she will persevere!!
UPDATES- we will of course continue to update you all on her condition, and I may begin transferring these updates over to a blog format next week? Expect updates in the next few days during the evening (when we can tell you what we learned and experienced throughout the day). Many thanks again for all of your love and support before, during and after this big leap!
Woot,
Team JoJo
