JoAnne Update // Immediate Surgery

Hi guys,

We spoke this morning with Dr. Barbosa, JoAnne's original surgeon who is on call this week. He said that the infection they have been worried about the last day or two (beginning with a fever) has become more worrisome after getting the results of the CT and the cultures last night. He'd like to go in immediately to inspect her abdominal cavity, specifically her colon and the bile duct. The infection visible in the CT could be a traditional infection (heightened by air that could have been in there from her gallbladder removal years ago), or it could be much more serious (like the bacteria she had originally). There is no way for him to know what the situation is until he gets in there. While in the OR, he will also inspect her leg surgery site to make sure all is well there, too.

She went in at 10am, and we should know in the next 1-3 hrs (by late morning) what the situation is (and will require). Could be some simple antibiotics and draining, but it also could be something far more serious, putting her life at risk. We'd like door #1, please.

We feel very confident in the surgeons, and will let you know the minute that we hear from them!

Much love to you all- your thoughts and prayers are so very much appreciated.
