We wanted to send you a quick update about Joanne, as she made it through the night! We just spoke to her night nurse who had some small updates.
Generally speaking, she has stayed stable all yesterday and throughout the night, which they had frankly not expected. Most patients who have undergone such a traumatic surgery with such little immune system typically go up and down, and they have to chase them care-wise to stay on top of things. Joanne's condition has not changed much at all, which is GOOD news. In fact, a few things have actually improved:
- Her electrolytes are up
- She is producing urine, which means her kidneys are in good shape
- Her blood pressure has slowly dipped a little, which is apparently expected with open wounds, and they have adjusted this with meds. She also has tension cuffs on her legs to keep her pressure up.
- Her hemoglobin is stable
- Her white blood cell count (which was .1 yesterday) is up a tiny bit at .3
They plan to take her in to surgery this afternoon to do more clean up and assess the next steps. Think good thoughts that the bacteria has not spread any further.
