Day 15 // Procedure Postponed

Hello all,

JoAnne's procedure has been postponed again, as they want to make sure she doesn't have an infection. As we mentioned, she's had an on and off fever the last few days, and although her leg wound looks alright, they also want to make sure her abdomen does not have any suspicious infections prior to closing her up for good.

They plan to do an abdominal CT scan tonight with contrast to rule out any infections in her colon surgery site and abdominal wound site. They've also sent cultures out to be analyzed, and we'll hear the results of all of that in the next day or two.

At this stage (and considering all JoAnne has been through), they want to be utterly certain that they are not closing up a wound that has an infection. Not super news, we know, but we've been aware of the fact that infection is one (if not the biggest) risk to her health at this point, so we're very relieved that the nursing team (and surgeons, of course) are so on top of this.

We'll keep you all posted on what we hear, and please think good thoughts in the meantime!

Much love,

Team JoJo

PS- we've had some amazing visitors at the ICU lately. MaryAlice has come by, MaryJane too, and Carol comes by a few times a week (at least! in photo below on L). JoAnne's old friend from college, Jan, came for almost an entire week, and man, did we laugh lots with her (she's in the 2nd photo). Did you all know that as a student teacher, she gave JoAnne her first B in college? Yup- JoAnne was pretty pissed. Price will be up for 4 days mid-September when Kelty and I are in New York for work, and MaryAnn (yes, another marvelous Mary) is planning to come for two weeks in October. We feel so lucky to have so much amazing support from you all (with the Crossword puzzle, too). xo

  2. I'm so glad they are being thorough; it sucks that we can't get her into "healing mode" faster, but it is a lot less sucky than finding out she has an infection after they close the wound. I wish I could be there with you. Love you tons and still praying and thinking of AJ daily. hugs and kisses, thorey.

  3. Thanks, gals. Yeah, it was a good thing they waited to close her up, as the infection could have been even worse! Thanks so much for your sweet comments and continued support. xoxo
