Day 21 // Resting & Healing

Hey guys,

Not much to report about today...

UPDATE- JoAnne's stats remain stable, her wounds apparently look better (especially her hip!), she began the feeding tube again (instead of the IV nutrients), she's been resting most of the day (with a few moments of restlessness here an there) and she smiled again at me when I talked to her this morning. She's likely having some seriously wacky dreams from the pain meds/sedatives, so who knows what she may have been imagining when seeing me, but it felt really good to see her smile all the same.  :)

TOMORROW- JoAnne will go in for another cleaning session tomorrow, and the surgeons feel confident she will have continued to heal a bit more since her last wound vacs from Monday.

JOURNALING- Again, many thanks to all of you who have been commenting on the blog or sending us notes and texts! We were talking to one of our favorite nurses the other day (Carrie, a former sailor/landscaper-turned-nurse) about JoAnne's sedation experience. Does she know what's going on? Is she hallucinating or having nightmares? Will she remember anything after she recovers? Carrie said that the experience is unique for every patient, and many times it's difficult post-recovery for them to make sense of (and fully comprehend or accept) what actually happened due to the amnesiac effects of the sedatives. She recommended starting a journal for her. Ha! Done and done. Your comments and notes are also something she'll be able to reflect on and appreciate as she recovers, so thank you again for sending those now (for us) and later (for JoAnne).  :)
