Day 20 // Holding Steady

Hi all,

Not much to report today... see below for details on JoAnne's cleaning procedure outcomes.

HIP WOUND- Dr. Madey says all is well with her hip surgery site, no infections to worry about that he can see. They cleaned things out again today, leaving it a bit open for draining and another cleaning on Wednesday, supposedly... We'll keep you posted if any issues should arise, but so far, so good. 

ABDOMINAL WOUND- Dr. Ramzy came by to discuss the cleaning, which also went well. He had to remove a tiny bit of tissue along the edges of the wound opening, but nothing worrisome, and her colon/biliary tree/liver looked good, for the most part. No leakage that he could see, which should mean that the infection is on it's way to being healed. He'll be here the rest of the week, which feels good to know, as we trust him implicitly and value his kindness and communication skills very much. More after the next cleaning on Wednesday. 

STATS- all around the same as yesterday, not much to report. She's been a bit more wakeful, which is always hard to watch, as she's clearly a bit uncomfortable (making faces here and there, scrunching her shoulders, etc). The nurses keep reminding us of the following: who wouldn't be uncomfortable after almost 3 weeks in a bed?! They continually do all they can to keep her rotating positions, cool (as we all know she loves the frigid indoor temps), etc. Her wakefulness (a term to be used loosely, as she's still totally out of it due to the pain meds/sedatives) have caused her to move her arms around a bit more... The nurses say that this is great for her muscles, circulation, etc. 

That's about it! As we've said before, no news is typically good news, so let's call it day and hope for the same tomorrow!  :)
